Whitney Bird Acupuncture

Hello! I’m so glad you’re here!

You’re in the right place if:

You’re curious how Chinese medicine & acupuncture can benefit you
You have not been feeling 100% and want to heal from an illness or injury

You HAVE been feeling 100% and want to stay that way
You have tried other types of modalities but didn’t find meaningful results
You need support for being alive (and someone to throw musical theater references at you)

I'm quite passionate about the medicine and my responsibility not just to treat, but to encourage and educate folks to make positively changes for better health.
Life is complex, at times challenging, but always changing. Experiencing the human condition in all its fullness is a privilege, but none of us can get through it alone. Aligning our mental, emotional, and physical states takes awareness and continual tending, so I'm here to support and guide you along your healing journey.

TREATMENTS OFFERED

Each individualized treatment is designed for you and your unique needs. Whether your goals are to relieve pain, manage stress, balance hormones, improve fertility, recover from or prevent dis-ease, acupuncture can help.

The Chinese medicine approach to health focuses on your body's structure, physiological systems, diet + nutrition, and your emotional and psychological state to help you live a happier, healthier life.

This is a holistic approach to health, so we go in depth to understand and identify patterns and imbalances, address each of your concerns, and make a treatment strategy.

Most sessions involve acupuncture, and depending on what's needed at that moment, could include cupping, moxibustion,  breathwork, ear seeds, or acupressure.

Sessions are offered in the Blithedale office in Mill Valley, or via Telehealth, wherever you are.

What to expect

We’ll have a written and verbal check in where we discuss how you’re feeling, health history, behaviors and goals. I’ll take your pulses, inspect your tongue, and palpate the meridians along your body to make a diagnosis and plan.
As I insert the hair thin acupuncture needles, most folks don’t notice, occasionally there is brief zing, but not pain. As you rest with the needles, some people feel buzzing or warmth and tingling up and down the body.

Many folks take a nap.

After the needles are removed, you might require cupping or moxa, and I will talk you through each step of the process. I see each session as a dialogue or a dance between us, and your input and observations are more than welcome, they are required!
The treatments are generally painless, patients often feel relaxed immediately after, sleep better that night.

Depending on your situation, herbs might be prescribed, or you may need a bit of nutritional consultation, or guided movement/ stretches.

The number of treatments required depends on your particular case, and will be evaluated each session. A more acute a situation requires fewer session than a chronic condition.
I am dedicated to the most effective ways to provide safe, personalized care for every patient. I will err on the side of caution every time.

I just wanted to let you know that I have 100% relief today! I don't have any pain so far. I just want to keep this pain free living. Thank you so much. I have tears of joy!!

Hello!
Feel free to call me Whitney, or as most of my little pals do, Auntie Whitney. She/Her, if you please.

My formal education in this medicine was from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, where I received both my master's and doctorate. Since then I have been humbled to learn from and work under the the brilliant and generous TCM doctors Raymond Himmel and Danny Geren, and my very best teachers; my patients. I'm licensed by the California Acupuncture Board and nationally certified by the NCCAOM for acupuncture and herbal medicine.

If you've met me, you know my passion for the medicine is enthusiastic to say the least, and I treat every body that crosses through my door with that energy and care. My treatments often include acupuncture, cupping, shonishin, moxibustion, gua sha, breathwork, nutritional and emotional consultations, herbal formulas, and occasionally tuina or qi gong. I love homework, and prescribe plenty of it.

Outside of private practice I have worked with Paradigm Treatment Centers, and volunteered with the Integrative Healers Action Network and Acupuncture Without Borders-  which utilize the power of group healing for emotional and spiritual health.

I'm originally from Vallejo, spent the last decade on Coast Miwok Territory (Marin.)

I am grateful every day to have the opportunity to practice the medicine I love in a place of such extraordinary natural beauty. When not in the office I can be found birding and exploring alongside my beloved partner Ed, our comedic Frenchies, and their devoted cat, The Doctor.
